Vicente Fox blames US for Mexico violence

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox arrived in Laredo earlier this evening after being invited by local groups to discuss trade between the US and Mexico. But that’s not all, Fox decided to discuss when he got off the plane.

Fox was taking on questions about what seems to be escalating violence in Mexico, and not surprisingly, he says the United States shares the blame for what’s happening across the border.

Invited by local groups to discuss US-Mexico trade, former president of Mexico Vicente Fox, instead taking time to discuss other matters:

“We’re working for the United States. The truth is and everybody that is listening knows this nation has the largest consumer market of drugs in the world.”

Fox, who has suggested legalizing marijuana, says the consumption of drugs here in the U.S. is only sending problems across the border:

“What president Calderon is trying to do is refrain the drugs to this market.”

“If you look at all the killings done everyday, all are done with weapons with ammunition bought here in the United States.”

The deaths are mounting.

An estimated 15,000 people have died in gang related violence since President Calderon took office three years ago.

While efforts have been made to prevent the spillover of violence, Fox says the best way to do that is for the U.S. to work side-by-side with Mexico.

“United States reducing the consumer market, United States reducing the flow of arms into Mexico, and Mexico fighting the criminals.”

The United States currently does outbound inspections to try to catch any weapons going across the border.

Back in February of last year, Senator John Cornyn visited Laredo to discuss ways of aiding Mexico in the fight against drug cartels and said it was the United States desire to help the Mexican government now more than ever.

They SHOULD legalize marijuana. It's an unregulated market.

I mean think about it. Half a million people in the USA die from alcohol and tobacco. There have been 0 recorded deaths of marijuana since its usage thousands of years ago.

Tobacco is way more lethal then marijuana. Alcohol fawks up your behavior.

Once you legalize it, it'll be a major blow to the cartels. People will start growing and legit businesses will pop up. Plus, you can tax it.

It's a win-win situation.

As for Fox's comments, it's kinda true. Both the consumers/cartels are to blame.

Though the whole country of Mexico is corrupted, and not all has to do with drugs, even if Marijuana is legalized, corruption will still exist. If you have a joint, they wont arrest you, right?
